Description

Long Bros. Fine and Rare Books in Seattle is pleased to offer an original, official invitation from the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to Sir Walter and Lady Moberly to the annual Review of the Fleet by His Majesty King George VI.
The invitation is engraved except for the typed names of the guests. The crest of the Admiralty is embossed, as we have tried to convey in the close-up photo. The photo on the verso reveals the crest in negative blindstamp.
The invitation measures 7.5 inches by 5.5 inches.
The invitation was sent to prominent British academic Sir Walter Moberly and his wife. An Oxonian, Moberly was a philosopher who spent his academic career at the University of Birmingham and the University of Manchester, among other posts. Mbberly Library at Winchester College is named after him; his best known books are "The Crisis in the University" and "The Ethics of Punishment."
The invitation may be returned for any reason, with buyer paying return shipping, if mailed within one week of receipt. (This despite eBay’s stated “two week” return policy.) Any questions? Please holler! We pride ourselves on our customer service. Thank you for your interest. Happy bidding!
