Pair Antique Chinese High Back Elm Armchair Red Lacquer.
    SKU # RV-31812-PR
    SOLD AS PAIR
This beautiful pair of high back arm chairs are a great example of style and craftsmanship.
The back splat has gentle curves without any ornamentation. The Top rail curves up into 4 peaks and is contained, meaning it does not protrude beyond the side rails. This style is often referred to Southern Official’s style arm chairs. There are fancy aprons inside the intersection of the top and side rails with a beaded detail on the edges.
The arms, along with the front goose neck posts and the side posts have graceful curved lines.
The seat is an inset flat panel style. The frame around the panel has a flat front edge with a molded detail on the bottom. There is also a molded design where the frame meets the panel.
There is a fancy shaped relief apron under the front seat and down the legs. The apron has a bead detail around edges. In the center of the top apron is a carving of a hanging bat, a symbol of good luck. The sides and back of the chairs have simpler aprons and a straight stretchers.
Much of the original tree lacquer finish, which is a redder color than the typical brown lacquer remains.  This is a very unusual and functional pair of chairs. As noted in the photos, there are shrinkage cracks on the seat panels.
As noted below the seat height is 21″. We often have customers who want to use an antique Chinese table as a desk, but the height is usually several inched higher than typical desks. Using chairs like these, which is also several inched higher than  standard chairs, with one of the Chinese tables, as seen in one of the photos, makes a great combination. (be sure to check knee clearance first).
